Review: Melia Castelo Branco
The Melia Castelo Branco hotel is well situated on the Castle Hill overlooking the city. It is a large hotel with over 100 rooms. The hotel reception is large and airy and that floor houses the main entrance, bar and lounge area. Bedrooms are situated on higher and lower levels.
We stayed at the Melia for almost a week over New Year and our room was situated on one of the lower levels view a balcony and views over the south of the city. Our room was well equipped with large comfortable beds. It was on the same floor as the restaurant which was very useful as we went there every day for the buffet breakfast (which was excellent) and a few times for the buffet evening meal which was on the whole also very good. I have a slightly restrictive diet but I found there was always enough for me to eat.
On the bottom level is the pool and gym area. Both were more than adequate for a hotel stay and we went for a swim as often as possible. They also have squash courts and a spa facility (which we did not use).
All in all the hotel was great and I would definitely stay there again. The only downsides I found was that sometimes parking wasn’t great and being on a hill it was a a bit of a trek to get into the city if you decided to walk. Overall though I would definitely recommend it.
