Review: Parque de Campismo Idanha-a-Nova
We visited the Campsite at Idanha-a–Nova at what would have been the height of summer, but due to the effects of COVID-19 there were only a dozen or so other campers there and I suspect the majority of them live there full time.
We were in a motorhome and like many other campsites in Portugal there were no real designated spots so we pulled up at a place close to electricity and water. Checking in was simple and the prices were reasonable. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 almost all of the amenities were shut so that was the pool, games room and shop. The showers and toilet blocks were of course still open but that was about it.
The site is very big and looks like it would be excellent under normal circumstances. It is right by the Idanha reservoir which is great for swimming (so warm in summer) and there is a bar nearby too. The site is a way out of Idanha (about a 5-10 mins drive up a steep hill) so you would definitely need your own transport, we hired a car to get around rather than drive the motorhome every day. The nearest car hire is in Castelo Branco which is about a 20-25 minute drive.
The campsite appears to be open all round and there aren’t too many alternatives in the area so it’s definitely worth a stay. I’d like to see it in normal times but probably not at the height of summer because I imagine it would be very busy!
